Alpha Psi Omega: Upsilon Chi Cast is the National Theatre Honors Society here at St. John's University. For the past Twenty-One years we have been putting on Six shows every academic year that truly reflect why it is such an honor to be apart of Theatre!
How to Become a Member:
From the Alpha Psi Omega: Upsilon Chi Cast Constitution:
-Qualification for individual membership includes active participation in theatre work on more than one level.
-The Upsilon Chi Cast may not allow standard to fall below these guidelines:
-Completed at least two semesters of participation in theatre work at the St. John’s University through shows produced by ALPHA PSI OMEGA or the University’s Performing Arts Group, The Chappell Players Theater Group.
-Participation in a variety of production tasks (acting, directing, playwriting, front-of-house management, technical theatre, dramaturgy, production research, and other appropriate theatrical responsibilities).
-The Point System will determine if the participation in these production tasks meets the amount needed.A grade point average of 2.5 or higher better
Point System:
-A total of 75 points from the following categories (including participation in at least 2 areas of categories 1 through 5) is necessary to be eligible for admission into ALPHA PSI OMEGA:
-Category 1: Theatre PerformanceActing (15-30 pts)Dancing (15-30 pts)Singing (15-30 pts)
-Category 2: Theatre ProductionProducing (20-30 pts), Design (20-30 pts), Stage Management (20-30 pts), Production Coach/Other (5-25 pts), Tech Hours Completed as confirmed by CPTG (10-20 pts), Running Crews (5-15 pts), Front-of-House (1-15 pts), Public Relations/Publicity/Marketing (5-20 pts)
-Category 3: DirectingStage directing (25-40 pts), Choreography (20-30 pts), Musical directing (20-30 pts)
-Category 4: Dramaturgy (20-40 pts)
-Category 5: PlaywritingPlay/Book for musical (10-30 pts), Musical Composition for Theatre Performance (10-30 pts), One Act/Skit for Theatre Performance (10-15 pts)
-Category 6: SpecialOfficer in Chappell Players Theater Group (5 pts)
-Category 7: SpecialMembership in Delta Psi Omega (50 pts)
Big/Little Program:
When a new member earns 75 points, they automatically become a part of our “Big/Little Process/Program.” They will be assigned a big to help guide and mentor them during their time in Alpha Psi Omega and St. John’s University!
